Pre-Surgery

Candidates for bariatric surgery typically have a BMI of 35 or higher or a BMI of 30-34.9 with obesity-related health conditions. However, every case is unique, and we encourage you to fill out our medical questionnaire to determine your eligibility.

The process begins by completing the medical questionnaire, which our bariatric specialists will review to determine the best surgical option for you.

Pre-surgery tests include blood work, an EKG, and a psychological evaluation. Our team will provide detailed instructions on any additional tests or consultations needed based on your medical history.

You should bring comfortable clothing, personal hygiene items, medications, and all necessary documents. We also recommend bringing a small pillow for comfort during travel.

Surgery & Recovery

On the day of surgery, you’ll arrive at Blue Medical Tower, where you’ll meet with your surgical team. After final consultations and preparations, the surgery will be performed. Most surgeries last between 1-3 hours, depending on the procedure.

Hospital stays typically last 2-3 nights. After surgery, you’ll be closely monitored by our medical team to ensure a smooth recovery.

Recovery involves gradually reintroducing liquids and foods into your diet while following specific post-operative instructions. You will also have follow-up consultations with Dr. Valenzuela and our After Care Physician, Dr. Josue Vazquez, to monitor your progress.

Most patients can return to work within 1-3 weeks after surgery, depending on the nature of their job and how they are feeling. We recommend light activity during the first few weeks of recovery.

Aftercare & Support

We offer comprehensive aftercare, including follow-up appointments, nutritional guidance, and access to our support groups. Dr. Josue Vazquez, our After Care Physician, will be available to address any concerns and monitor your progress.

Yes, post-surgery diets are crucial for your recovery and long-term success. You will start with a liquid diet, gradually progressing to pureed foods, soft foods, and then a normal diet over the course of several weeks. Our Head Bariatric Nutritionist will guide you through this process.
